Tsesis, Blazer, Ben-Izhack, Taschieri, Del Fabbro, Corbella, Rosen. JOE 2015

The mean distance measured by Root ZX and Justy II in the presence of H2O2 was shorter compared with the mean distance measured by them in the presence of NaOCl (P < .05). The pulp status (vital or necrotic) had no significant effect on the precision of the EALs. Root ZX, Justy II, and Endy 5000 were found to be significantly more accurate than Endox.

+Sys Rev/10 articles/gold standard

Martins, Marques, Mata, Caramês. JOE 2014

Working length determination by using EAL may perform better than radiography alone.

+Sys Rev, 21 articles, Only RCTs and clinical studies included

Ravanshad, Adl, Anvar. JOE 2010

There was no statistically significant difference between the rates of acceptable WL : Master cone radiograph: group 1(RAD) = 82.1% and group 2 (EAL) = 90.4%. Final radiograph: group 1 = 85.7% and group 2 = 90.4%. Electronicapex locators are superior in reducing overestimation ofthe root canal length.

Smadi BMC oral health 2006

The practice of using electronic apex locator in the determination of working length is useful and reliable with no statistical difference of the radiographic extent of root canal filling when using apex locator alone or in combination with working length radiograph.

+151 canals, EAL alone or with RAD.
