1. Chalk wheels


2. Turn key to the on position and point out the ABS light


3. Make sure truck is in neutral and both tractor and trailer protection valves are set


4. Turn the truck on

Safe Start (Manual)

1. Make sure your transmission is in neutral


2. Fully depress the clutch


3. Turn the key to ON


4. Check the ABS Light


5. Start the engine

What are the 4 stages of the air brake test?

1. Applied pressure test


2. Pump down to the warning light and buzzer


3. Pump down until the tractor protection valve and the parking brake pop out


4. Recovery Stage. Safe start to build air pressure to proper operating range

How do you prepare for the air brake test?

1. Build air pressure to 120 to 125 or governor cut off


2. Put the truck in lowest gear


3. Turn off the engine


4. Turn the key back to the ON position


5. Push the tractor protection valves in ( red and yellow), releasing the parking brakes


6. Wait for gauges to stabilize


7. Perform a safe start.

How Do You Perform Stage 2 of the Air Brake Test?

1. Pump down on the brake pedal until the warning light and buzzer comes on at or before 60 psi

How do You Perform Stage 1 of the Air Brake Test?

*Ask the examiner to time you*


1. Push and hold the brake pedal fully (as hard as you can) for 1 minute


2. After the initial drop you can't lose more than 4 psi in 1 minute


3. I'm also listening for air leaks

Oil Pressure Gauge

The engine oil is rising to normal operating range

Voltmeter

- My alternator is charging between 13 to 14 Volts

How Do You Perform Stage 4 of the Air Brake Test?

1. Perform a safe start


2. The noise you are hearing is the low air warning buzzer, it will go off at 60 psi


3. Rebuild air pressure to the proper operating range between 100 to 120 psi


4. Mr./Mrs. examiner I have concluded my Air Brake Test

How Do You Perform Stage 3 of the Air Brake Test?

1. Pump down on the brake pedal until both tractor protection valve and the park brake pop out between 45 and 20 psi

Water Temperature Gauge

The water temperature is rising to normal operating range

City Horn and Air Horn


- Blow the Air Horn by pulling the cord


- Blow the City Horn by pushing on the center of the steering wheel

*Push the washer button and spray the Windshield*

Air Pressure Gauge

The Air Pressure should build to governor cut between 120 to 125 psi

Service Brake Check

1. Release both protection valves


2. Pull forward to 5 mph


3. Apply the brake to make sure it doesn't pull to the left or right
