Finger waving

the process of shaping and directing the hair into an S pattern through the use of fingers, combs, and finger waving lotion

Finger waving lotion

type of hair gel that makes the hair pliable enough to keep it in place during the finger waving procedure

Base

A stationary foundation of the curl, which is the area closest to the scalp

Stem

the hair between the scalp and the first turn of the pin curl

Circle

the part of the curl that forms a complete circle and ultimately the wave

No Stem curl

placed directly on the base of the curl; produces a tight, firm, long-lasting curl and allows minimum mobility

Half Stem curl

Permits medium movement and gives good control to the curl; curl is half off its base

Full Stem curl

Allows for the greatest mobility and the curl is placed completely off its base

Shaping

Produce even smooth waves and uniform curl

Ribboning
