How is a SWM completed?

1. First, the SWM training process must be introduced and explained to the employee.


2. Observation, Explanation, Commentary, and Drill will occur three times throughout the employee's shift. (Initial third of shoft, middle third of shift, final third of shift.)


3. Next, the SWM begins with the first round of Observations. Trainer marks any at risk method observed as a "N" immediately. Any method not observed must be reviewed and marked with an "R". Any method observed not marked as an exception will be marked as a "Y" at the end of the observation period.


4. Next, the trainer will provide the employee an Explanation(Teach Me) of the at-risk safe work methods observed.


5. Next, the trainer will provide Commentary(Show Me) by demonstrating the correct method(s) that were marked with an "N" to the employee.


6. Next, the trainer will Drill - Follow Up(Let Me) with the employee to ensure understanding of the safe work methods performed incorrectly by having the employee explain AND demonstrate the correct methods.


7. After middle round of observation, explanation, commentary, and drill have been completed, the trainer will demonstrate how to complete the SWM Drill Exercise(Let Me) for his or her specific job.


8. Next, the employee will then conduct the SWM Drill Exercise(Let Me) for his or her specific job.
