VCR introduced, which really changes the way we interact with TV. You
no longer have to be sitting there at 8:00 on Thursday to watch Cheers, you can
record it and watch later. It also blurs the line between what is TV and what is
film, and we see the mediums converging.
What happens on June 12th, 2009?
-transition from broadcasting an analog signal to sending out a digital one.
It means you send out a higher quality signal, or you can send out multiple subchannels, but what most of us don’t think about is that it cleared up a lot of
bandwidth for other kinds of devices to use, things like cell phones and internet
devices – and all that cleared up bandwidth is great for business. I think it’s fair
to say that the primary motivation for the change to digital was the great business
opportunity it presented. The bottom line is usually the bottom line.
