Identify copper from thinnest to thickest(HMLK) |
Type H =thinnest WT (thin wall copper tube developed especially for hot water heating systems. TypeH copper tube is no longer available Sizes of 1/4” 1/2” and 1” hard temper and in 12’ only Type M=thicker WT ( most commonly used in residential and light commercial buildings. Should not be bent sizes 1/4”-12” to and lengths of 12’ to 20’ Type L= Thicker/medium WT( same NPS, tempers and lengths as type K copper tube. Type L water service tube is usually supplied in coils that are 60 ft (underground service) Type K= Thickest WT (thickest wall and is available in 1/4”-12” in either straight lengths of 12’-20’ or in a soft temper coil of up to 100’ in length. Water service tube is usually supplied in 66’ length |

|
What is solder type |
Solder type fittings are available for both DWV and pressure applications DWV and pressure aka streamline fittings Dwv fittings have a smaller cup design, require less solder and have no pressure rating |

What is compression type |
Compression Type Fittings are typically manufactured from barstock brass. Compression nuts are manufnctured in two styles: standard and long. The compression ferrules may be different patterns Ferrule type compression joints can be referred to as flareless or sleeve type, in to a trade or manuficturer's name. show three different ferrule types, which are generally referred to as compression fittings. D shows a type of joint, which is usually enfled a threaded sleeve fitting It is important to realize that the compression fittings, ferrules (or sleeves), and not interchangeable. A good, leak-proof joint cannot be achieved if all components are-not of the same type. Note= the ferrule seals the compression joint |
