Tsunamis are so strong that they have the power to knock down a whole building. The tsunami in 2004 was huge it took over 5000 lives.Unfortunately we have no way of stopping tsunamis so 90% of the time it means that places with tsunamis have to evacuate. |

Items used to track tsunamis and how they work
Here are 2 of the many tsunami trackers that are used to track tsunamis. |
TSUNAMIS |
|
The buoy,(the part that you can see on top of the ocean) tracks the wave motions. if the waves have a certain motion than the buoy will send a message of how big the motion is to a satellite.
|
TSUNAMIS |
|
Next the message is beamed back to a tsunami warning center and than the motion message is checked by the owners of the center.Next the center passes the message to the public.

This can be done by news, Facebook websites, and phones.

How to avoid tsunamis
There are some special buildings that are high in pillars so the water can not knock it down. The pillars are screwed into the ground so the water can not knock down the pillars. |
TSUNAMIS |
|
The pillars are super long so they go down about 1 story's worth of depth into the ground. But the best thing to do is get to high ground.

How do we know when a tsunami is going to happen?
Like 2 slides ago. There are many types of buoys used to track water motion and send that to the weather center. If there is a potential flood than you should evacuate you home and move to a high ground area. |
