Three stage approach |
1. Apply direct pressure with sterile dressings: - non stick dressing - abdominal pad - Secure with bandage 2. If hemorrhage not controlled: - leave original dressing in place and apply second dressing with direct pressure - abdominal pad - Secure with bandage 3. If hemorrhage not controlled: - Apply tourniquet 5 to 10cm above the injury or just above the joint if necessary - document the time applied - apply direct pressure as well when using tourniquets to assist with clotting |
