What does TAP do?

The Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP) provides job assistance and separation counseling services for Soldiers and their Families during the transition away from active service.

Where are TAP services offered and who provides them?

TAP services are provided on military installations by Transition Assistance Officers. On Army installations TAP services are delivered through Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) centers.

What are some services that TAP provides?

TAP initiatives include transition information and counseling for pre-separation, employment assistance, relocation, education and training, health and life insurance, finances, Reserve affiliation, disabled Veterans, and retirement.

Active duty eligibility and requirements?

Active duty Soldiers with more than 180 days of active duty preparing to transition from the service are eligible to receive ACAP transition assistance. Soldiers are required to receive pre-separation counseling and to complete DD Form 2648, "Pre-separation Counseling Checklist" prior to leaving the installation.
