Define quantitative image analysis and computer aide diagnosis |
quantitative image analysis: provides quantitative information to assist with diagnosis but diagnosing eg if a tumour is growing CAD: relies on computer algorithms of image segmentation, feature detection, and classification that are similar to human obsevers imagae analysis. assist dectection or diagnosis |
Define image segmentation |
Histogram is analysed and thethreshold is determined. The threshold values are based on the peak/ mode within the histogram. A peak/mode in the histogram represents a group ofpixels with the same pixel vale, indicating the same object such as the sametissue within the image. |
define image extraction |
Reducing the amount of resources required to describe a largeset of data mean: indication of brightness standard deviation: indication of contrast, high deviation high contrast skew: measures the asymmetry about the mean in pixel value distribution energy: measures how pixels are distributed entropy: measures of the bits number that we need to code the image data = wider distribution of pixel values |
define feature classification |
NA |
describe one image segmentation method |
all pixels with grey scale less than threshold selected are set to 1 (grey) and all others are set to 0 (black) |
describe one image feature extraction method |
edge detection : filters out irrelevant information while keeping relevant information such as sharp edges |
define image entropy as the image feature how image entropy is related to the image information |
measures of the bits number that we need to code the image data the entropy increase as the pixel values are gradually spread over the pixel value range the higher the entropy mean the more information in the image |
what is medical imaging statistical parametric mapping? |
Subtract (before treatment) image from the (after treatment) image then apply statistical (significance) test The test calculates at the pixel level The results (significance) is stored as a separate image as their positions correspond to the original image |
what is parametric/compon mapping? |
using image to map progress or treatment Parametricimage is any parameters calculated from the image of any modalities on pixel by pixel basis Provide vital patient information not found in the acquiredimages to radiologists for clinical decision |
