What types of tissues are there?
1- Epithelial Tissues
2= Connective Tissues
3= Muscle Tissues
4= Nervous Tissues
What does Epithelial Tissues consist of?
Epithelial tissue consists of sheets of cells that line or cover body cavities, our skin, lining of our digestive tract, lining of the mouth.
What is the function of the Epithelial tissues?
To protect underlying tissues.
What are the different types of Epithelial tissues?
They are classified into 3 different types according to cell shape:
1) Simple layers. A simple layer of flattened cells adapted for diffusion across cell barriers, lines blood vessels and air sacs in lungs, and throat.
2)Stratefied.
Cubed-shaped cells that consist of multiple layers. It is thicker and provides protection for underlying cells. It lines kidney tubules and covers ovaries. It secretes and reabsorbs water and small molecules.
3) Basement membrane.
Give the epithelial tissue something to adhere to. This supportive noncellular layer is beneath the epithelial tissue. Made of protein.
What is Connective tissue made of? Function?
Made of nonliving cells. Supports softer organs and connects body parts. It stores fat and produces the cells of blood.
What are the 2 types of connective tissue? Functions?
1- Fiberous connective tissue. Connects body parts, provides strength, support and flexibility. Made up of fibers of protein and cells in gel-like substance. Connects tendons, ligaments, stretching organs(stomach).
2) Specialized Connective Tissue. Consists of cartilage and bone which provide suport, blodd carries materials throughout body and adipose tissue stores energy in the form of fat.
What does Muscle tissue consist of and what is its' function?
Consists of cells that contract and shorten to produce movement. Made up of tightly packed cells called muscle fibers (protein). Skeletal muscle tissue connects tendons to bones. Cardiac muscle tissue: found in the heart. Smooth muscle: surrounds hollow organs and tubes. Like blood vessels, digestive tract, uterous and bladder.
What does the Nervous tissued consist of? What is its function?
Consist of cells that transport electrical impulses throughout the body. Serves as a communication network.
