Drunken tinker, Christopher Sly, staggers out of tavern, angry Hostess threatens to arrest him. Falls asleep, found by hunting party. Lord in command decides to play trick on him. Men take Sly home, dress him in fine clothes and treat like nobleman. Strolling actors hired perform an entertainment. Lord's pageboy dressed as woman and says he is Sly's 'wife'. Sly wakes, told deluded for 15yrs and old life= dream. Players announce they'll perform cheerful play to restore health, Sly settles down with 'wife' to watch.
