Who was Edgar the Aethling?

He was a Saxon prince, and great nephew of King Edward. His father was promised the throne but died when Edgar was 15. This meant Edgar couldn’t take his place due to his age

Who was Harald Hardrada?

Hardrada was a strict Viking Warrior who was King of Norway. His dad was supposed to be king so Hardrada wanted to take the throne.

Who was Harold Godwinson?

Godwinson was a very rich Earl of Wessex and King Edwards brother-in-law. He was also chancellor so he ran the country for some time when the king was busy. Godwinson said the King promised him the throne. This was backed up by Anglo Saxon chronicles. However this wasn’t credible because Harold was an Anglo Saxon.

Who was William Duke of Normandy?

William was the Kings cousin and a norman. Said he was named heir, which was backed up by Norman Chronicles (wasn’t credible). Pope of Rome supported him so he was supported by God.
