How did John Dalton develop on Democritus' theory? |
In 18o4, he agreed with Democritus that matter was made up of tiny spheres that couldn't be broken up but he reckoned that each emement had a different type of atom |
Matter is made up of atoms but can't be broken up and each element had its own individual type of atom |
|
How did J.J. Thomson develop on John Dalton's theory |
He discovered particles-electrons could be removed from atoms. He also suggested that atoms were spheres of positive charge with negative electrons stuck in them |
Like a plum pudding Plums - Negative electrons Sphere - atoms of positive charge |
|
How was the plum pudding model developed with the nuclear model |
Rutherford fired a beam of alpha particles at thin gold foil. Most of the particles went through the sheet but some more than expected deflected-Most of the mass in an atom must be concentrated at the centre in a tiny nucleus. The nucleus must have a positive charge since it repelled the positive alpha particles. |
