Fovea

Clear sharp colour vision. Where most cones are found.

Sclera

White outer layer that is tough so provides protection and structure

Optic disc (blind spot)

Optic nerve connects to the eye. No retina so cannot be converted into electrical impulses = blind.

Optic nerve

Carries electrical impulses made from the retina to the brain

Choroid

The pigmented vascular layer of the eyeball between the retina and the sclera. To nourish the retina and absorb scattered light.

Lens

Transparent biconvex lens that focuses light onto retina

Dispensary ligaments

Connects lens to ciliary body

Iris

The coloured part of the eye that controls how much light is let into the eye (changes size of pupil)

Pupil

Hole that allows light to enter the back of the eye

Cornea

Transparent outer area that protects the eye

Aqueous humour

Watery fluid that fills the space between the cornea and lens. Nourishes lens, cornea and helps maintain shape.

Ciliary body

Contains muscles that control shape and thickness of lens

Retina

Contains photo receptors that detect light and convert into an electrical signal/impulse.
