What is the role of the Circulatory System?

Delivers blood, oxygen, nutrients and removes waste from the body.

What is blood made of?

Red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma and platelets.

What organs are involved in the Circulatory system?

Heart, lungs, arteries, veins, blood vessels and capillaries.

What do arteries do?

Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart towards other tissues and organs.

What do capillaries do?

Capillaries bring oxygen to the tissue and remove wastes.

What do veins do?

Veins return deoxygenated blood back to the heart, this is why they look blue.

What happens when you breathe?

The respiratory system works with the circulatory system to bring oxygen to the body.

When we inhale, our diaphragm contracts, increasing space in our chest for the lungs.

Air moves in and out through the trachea (windpipe) bronchi and bronchioles. The it ends in tiny air sacs called alveoli.

What does the alveoli do?

They are tiny sacs in our lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide.to move between the lungs and bloodstream.

How does the circulatory system work?

Deoxygenated blood travels down the vena cava, down the right atrium and ventricles. Then it goes up the pulmonary artery to deliver blood to your lungs.

After being oxygenated it goes down the pulmonary veins and through the left atrium and ventricles. Then it goes to the Aorta to be delivered across the body.

What do valves do?

Valves such as the triscupid or pulmonic valve stop the blood from flowing back the other way.

What is the biggest vein in our body?

The Aorta vein.
