Georges Clemenceau (France)

Aged 78, most of the war fought on French grounds, industry and agriculture virtually destroyed in the north-west, the public wanted revenge and compensation, Clemenceau's main aim was to gain security for France and France wanted to keep Germany weak.

Wanted a very harsh treaty, had the worst war consequences.

David Lloyd George (UK)

Hadn't served as PM for long, his party wanted revenge on Germany, Lloyd George wanted to protect the supremacy of the British navy and didn't want and treaty too harsh on Germany as he feared them resulting to communism and Britain relied on trade for wealth so Germany's recovery was significant.

Middle man, only wanted to protect his country's best assets.

Woodrow Wilson (USA)

Hadn't served as president for long, in 1918 he published a fourteen-point plan (This includes freedom of the seas, the end of secret treaties and the future of colonies to be decided fairly), Wilson was an idealist and also believed in self-determination (when people have the right to decide which country they will be ruled by) and the USA joined the war in 1917 and did not approve of the strong hatred toward Germany.

Wanted the treaty to be the least harsh on Germany but Woodrow Wilson had many idea contributions.
