As city was in d soviet zone, d west depended on d USSR 2 keep open d routes in and out of d city.
But it was decisions by d west which triggered a crisis in d Cold War.
Stalin continued 2 extract reparations from d soviet zone of Germany.
but d other zones in d west including West Berlin were beginning 2 recover cuz of d Marshall aid.
By 1948 Britain, France and America had joined their zones together.
Dey were planning 2 establish a new currency 2 aid recovery.

Dis was not wat Stalin wanted.
He saw a prosperous Germany in d west as a threat 2 d USSR.
His response was 2 close all roads, canals and railways between d west and West Berlin on 24th June 1948.
Stalin wanted to force d west d west 2 give up West Berlin by starving d two million inhabitants.
Who had enough food and fuel 2 last for 6 Weeks.
Truman was faced wid giving up West Berlin or going to war.
But giving up d West Berlin meant giving in to Stalin.
2 use armed force involving d soviet zone of Germany.
