What are the mnemonics of CVDOT for the Characteristics of Data stand for?
Center, Variation, Distribution, Outliers, & Time
What does Center stand for ?
A representative or average value that indicates where the middle of the data set is located
What is variation?
A measure of the amount that data values vary
What is distribution?
The nature or shape of the spread of the data over the range of values (such as bell shaped, uniform, or skewed)
Wha is Outliers?
Sample values that lie very far away from the vast majority of the other sample values.
What is Time?
Changing the characteristics of the data over time.
What is a frequency distribution (or frequency table)?
Shows how the data set is partitioned among all of several categories (or classes) by listing all the categories along with the number of data values in each of the categories.
What is lower class limits?
They are the smallest number that can belong to the different classes.
What are upper class limits?
They are the largest number that can belong to the different classes.
What are class boundaries?
They are the #'s used to separate the classes but without the gaps created by class limits.
What are class midpoints?
They are the values in the middle of the classes.
What is the class width?
The difference between the two consecutive lower class limits or two consecutive lower class boundaries in a frequency distribution.
