· Gaius sends Macro to the senate with Tiberius’ will and has it declared void on the grounds that Tiberius was insane


· Emperor isn’t able to choose his successor


· Gaius adopted Tiberius (the younger) after assuming power and then killed him

Seneca, on firmness of purpose 18.3:
tells us how Chaerea killed Gaius for insulting him, and how "the first to strike had been the man who seemed least likely of all to do it". It is also interesting that the conspirators killed him for "past insults".
