Ribosomes
Compoased of RNA and PROTEIN. Actual sites of PROTEIN SYNTHESIS. Floating free/attached to a membraneous structure(the rough er) in the cytoplasm
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Tubules that extends throughout the cytoplasm.

1.) Rough ER is studded with ribosomes (tubules of the rough ER provide an area for storageand transport of the proteins made on the ribosomes to other cell areas)
2.) SMOOTH ER
NO FUNCTION IN PROTEIN SYNTHESIS (it's a site of steroid and lipid synthesis, lipid metabolism, and drug detoxification)
Golgi Apparatus
Stack of FLATTENED SACKS. Found close to the NUCLEUS. Plays a role in packaging proteins for export from the cell into the plasma membrance and in packaging LYSOSOMAL ENZYMES
Lysosomes
Various-sized membraneous sacs containing digestive enzymes (acid hydrolases); function to digest worn out cell organelles and foreign substances that enter the cell; have the capacity of total cell destruction if ruptured
Peroxisomes
SMALL LYSOSOME-LIKE membraneous sacs containing OXIDASE enzymes that DETOXIFY ALCOHO, HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
Mitochondria
PROVIDES CELLULAR ENERGY (ATP)
ROD-SHAPED W/ A DOUBLE MEMBRANE WALL
Centrioles
PAIRED, CYLINDRICAL BODIES lie at RIGHT ANGLES. CLOSE TO THE NUCLEUS.
FUNCTION:
directs the formation of the mmitotic spindle during cell division; form the bases of cilia and flagella
