Which turbine hotwell levels can be controlled in automatic with the dump?

ST 1-5

Under normal operation, when the board operator makes changes to the vacuum, what is physically happening in the field?

If the vacuum setpoint is raises, the vacuum breaker will open and increase the pressure in the condenser.

If the vacuum setpoint is lowered, the vacuum breaker will close and decrease the pressure in the condenser.

Define vacuum protect, the value in which it's set, and the value in which it is activated?

It is set during startup, when the board operator lowers the vacuum setpoint below a 7" and once set if it rises to a 10 the turbine will trip.

When will the hogger come in and when will it close off?

It will come open at 4" and close at 3"

What effect does increasing the vacuum have on hood temperature?

Increasing vacuum will decrease hood temperature.

What is the maximum hotwell flow during a backwash? Why is this?

Maximum flow divided by 2. This is to ensure adequate cooling.

Explain the possible causes for high vacuum on a condenser?

Load on Turbine

Vacuum setpoint (vac breaker position)

Manual vacuum breaker position or leak by.

Seal steam pressure

Plugged / improperly functioning air ejector.

Hotwell level

in?

Adequate amount of circ pumps running?

Hogger in?Adequate amount of circ pumps running?Does it need to be back washed?

Does it need to be back washed?

Bad pump seals

Rupture disk leak

Who should you notify if began dumping a condenser? How would this effect your decision to raise a turbine from condenser minimums when there may be other options?

Notify water treatment. When this is done water is a net loss from the site condensate inventory so you should minimize the amount of loss by increasing other turbine first.

Explain your actions if you received a high level in a ST Condenser. What would you direct the Aux to check, what would you do to minimize the amount of conndensate to the condenser, how else you could get the water out, when you would trip the turbine, etc.

Verify the level on the sight glass.

Minimize load while troubleshooting.

Have Aux check hotwell regulator, use bypass / dump.

Have Aux verify pumps are pumping correctly / not vapor locked.

Open manual dump.

Trip Turbine once level is out of the sight glass.
