Describe what life was like for a Puritan village.
The center of each Puritan Village was a common or village green. It was like a park for people and for the animals to graze. Buildings surround the common such as a general store, blacksmith shop and sawmill. The people were specialized or skilled in some of these shops like the blacksmith. There was also a school. This is so the kids could read their Bible. A meetinghouse was also at the center. This is where townmeetings were held. The men who owned property were allowed to vote on matters only concerning the community. They held elections to public office such as a constable, town crier, or a sweeper. This helped keep order and peace in the community.
