Rest

A condition in which the body is in a decreased state of activity, with the consequent feeling of being refreshed.

Sleep

State of rest accompanied by altered consciousness and relative inactivity.

Circadian rhythm

Non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and REM sleep

Characterizes the dream state of sleep.

Delta sleep

Slow wave sleep. Stages 3&4 , represents 10% of total sleep.

Sleep cycle

Person passes consecutively through the four stages of NREM.

Melatonin

Natural chemical produced at night that decreases wakefulness and promotes sleep.
