What are the extraction steam flow paths from the HP turbine?

1st Extraction - 4th stage of the HP turbine though 2 BTV's & into the #5 FWH shell side.

-

2nd Extraction - HP Turbine exhaust through 2 BTV's & the Pre-separator Tank into the #4 FWH shell side.

What are the extraction steam flow paths from the HP Turbines?

3rd Extraction - 3rd stage of the LP Turbine to the #3A/B FWH's shell side.

-

4th Extraction - 6th stage of the LP Turbine to the #2A/B FWH's shell side.

-

5th Extraction - 8th stage of the LP Turbine to the #1A/B FWH's Shell Side.

What is the purpose of the Bleeder Trip Valves?

Bleeder Trip Valves serve to:

- Isolate potential energy from entering the turbine after a turbine trip.

- Prevent water from the 5A/B FWH's and the Pre-Separator Tanks from entering the turbine blading.

How do bleeder trip valves operate?

-

Which lines have BTV's?

Bleeder Trip Valves are air to open, spring and reverse flow to close. As long as flow is in the correct direction the valve disc will "float" on the flow stream.

-

BTV's are located in the following lines:

- Extraction Steam line from the HP turbine to the 5A/B FWH's

- Extraction Steam Lines to the Pre-Separator Tanks / #4A/B FWH's

- MSR hot-well drain line to the HDT

What is the purpose of MS-2301, Fluid Operated Air Pilot Valve.

MS-2301 is held open by EH system pressure, and ports air to the BTV's, FWH Dumps, and FWH Drains as long as the turbine is latched. A turbine trip will dump the EH pressure, and isolate IA to the valves.

What indications are available for the #5 FWH and Pre-separator Tank BTV's in control?

-

What will happen if there is a high level in the #5 FWH's or the Pre-separator Tank?

The #5 FWH and Pre-Separator Tank BTV's have a single green light indication on C03.

-

A high level in either will cause its BTV's to go trip-free, and light the reset pushbutton on the apron section of C03.

What indications are provided for the MSR Hotwell Drain BTV's?

The MSR Hotwell Drain BTV's have Red and Green Light indication on C03.

What are the heatup and cooldown limits for removing / returning MSR's from / to service?

Heatup and Cooldown of MSR' sis li mited to 25F/hr.

What controls reheat steam to the MSR's?

-

What alternate means do we have for isolation isolation of steam to the MSR's?

MSR reheat steam valves are all controlled by a single controller on C03.

-

There is a 3 way solenoid on the IA supply to the reheat steam AOV's to isolate and vent the IA from a control panel outside the CR North door.

What is the purpose of the MSR stilling manifold?

MSR stilling manifold collects condensation from the reheater second pass and drains it to the #5 FWH.

Where is the stilling manifold drain valve located and why is it located there?

-

What means is used to promote draining through this path?

The drain valve is located at the 5 FWH, and it maintains level in the stilling manifold. This ensures no steam exits through the stilling manifold, maximizing efficiency and preventing erosion form two phase flow by only draining water.

-

There is a vent line between the stilling manifold and the #5 FWH to promote drainage.

What is the means of "tuning" the #5 FWH's to maximize efficiency?
Some of the MSR 4th pass steam is throttled to the #5 FWH's to maximize efficiency.

What is the purpose of the Preseparator Tanks?

The Preseparator Tanks extract steam from the exhaust of the HP turbine via BTV's and remove any moisture prior to sending the steam to the #4 FWH's.

How is level controlled in the Preseparator Tank?

Preseparator Tanks drain to the HDT, and dump to the condenser. On a Hi Level Alarm the BTV's will go to trip free, and the dump and drain valves will fail open.

-

This will also happen on a turbine trip via MS-2301.

Which FWH does not follow the convention of "drains to the next lower FWH, dumps to the condenser"?
The #4 FWH has no dump / drain valves, simply drains to the HDT. Draining is maximized by equalizing pressure via the 12" vapor recycle line, and the 2" equalizing line.

What will cause the 1, 2, and 3 FWH's dump and drain valves to fail open?

-

How is this reset?

1, 2,and 3 FWH Dump and Drain valves fail open on a high level, and a Turbine Trip.

-

To restore dump and drain valves to operating, the Turbine Trip must be reset, the high level must be cleared, and the backlit P/B on the vertical section on C03 must be depressed.

What is the purpose of having two level indicators?

One of the FWH Level Indicators is for the level control, the other provides input to the alarms

What are the inputs to the HDT?

HDT Inputs:

- MSR Hotwell Drains

- #4 FWH Drains

- S/G B/D Condensate Returns

- Preseparator Tank Drains

- Condensate Sparging

- Crossunder Piping Orificed Drains

What is the Purpose of CS-2585, HDT Sparging Valve?

-

What will open this valve?

-

What will happen if the controller is in Manual?

CS-2585 HDT Sparging Valve opens to introduce cold condensate water to the HDT to reduce pressure / temperature.

-

Valve will open on a Turbine Trip.

-

Opens in Auto or in Manual.

What are the power supplies to the HDT Pumps?

-

What will cause the HDT's to trip?

P-27A A-01

P-27B A-02

P-27C A-01

-

HDT Pumps will trip on either:

- Low Level, 4', in the HDT

- 4.8 psig in Containment (CPCI)

What provides seal water to the Heater Drain Tank Pumps?

-

What percentage of Feed Flow is provided by the HDT's?

Heater Drain Tank Pumps seal water is provided by Condensate.

-

The HDT Pumps provide about 30% of total feed flow.

What will cause the HDT Recirc Valve FD-2652 to open?

FD-2652 HDT Recirc Control Valve opens at 1500 gpm HDZT flow (FT-2755). Closes at 1600 gpm. (Fails open to protect the HDT Pumps).

What is the order for isolating a HDT Pump?

1. Shut the Discharge Valve

2. Shut the Seal Return Valve

3. Shut the suction from the HDT

4. Shut the vent to the HDT.

What are the inputs to the Atmospheric Blowoff Tank?
