Salbutamol Pharmacology
A synthetic Beta adrenergic stimulant
with primary Beta 2 effects.

Action:


1. Causes bronchodilatation

Primary Emergency Indication

Respiratory distress with suspected brochospasm:


1. Asthma
3. Severe allergic reaction
4. COPD
5. Smoke inhalation
6. Oleoresin capsicum spray exposure

Nil of significance in the above indication

Large doses of salbutamol have been
reported to cause intracellular metabolic
acidosis

Salbutamol Special Notes
Salbutamol nebules / polyamps have a shelf life of one month after opening. The date of opening of the packaging should be recorded and the drug should be stored < 30°C



Although infrequently used, Salbutamol by IV infusion may be required during IHT of some women in premature labour.




The dose is to be prescribed and signed by the referring hospital medical officer
