Limitations of diatribe
|
• Limited effectiveness- generates attention but not solutions
Misanthropic (negative b/c by advocating the destruction of society, they are encouraging the hatred of fellow humanity) • Romanticism- If social institutions are a priori the embodiment of all things evil and corrupt and Human nature is a priori good by nature, this is problematic b/c institutions are created and composed of people so what is the transformation between the individual. Social movements are also collectivities. There is incentive to improve b/c they will be corrupt no matter what. There are bad people and good institutions Radical flank effect: legitimizes more moderate anti-war factions and move them into the center of society but harms more moderate factions b/c extreme factions like the yippies get conflated with more moderate activists • Intended to illuminate and purge corruption from a society ▫ About ethical living in the world and not compromising ethics |
