Describing Land

Legal description is a detailed way of describing a parcel of land that will be accepted in a court of law.

Metes & Bounds Method

Oldest type of legal description. Metes means distance & bounds means compass or angles, and they always start at the “Point of Beginning” (POB)

Rectangular Survey System

Established in 1785 to standardize the description of land and is based on the intersecting of “principal meridians & base lines”
