Because many factors aside from cost enter into the decision like retailer reliability, return policy's, shipping methods, convince, etc.
What's a useful strategy to identify the most important factors in a purchase?
Identify the mot important factors in a purchase and then mentally sort out each product or retailer according to those factors
The three step process for making a purchase
1. What qualities are important
2. Get product information to compare against a list of qualities
3. Sort through through the product info and decide which product or retailer best matches the desired qualities

Table of Contents
Provides an overview of a document, outlining the basic structure and allowing the reader to quickly look up the section he wants
Index
Also provides a way of looking up various topics in the document. It typically consist of a list of names, topics or ideas are mentioned.

Most long printed non fiction document
Identify the appropriate source for locating information pg 36 what does finding the appropriate source mean?
First find the information to the point, and find if its credible or authortive
Ex. A women plans to drive from her nome in Kansas to her sisters home in California. She is hoping to spend only two days driving on her car. What informational source could she use to help determine if her driving goal is attainable?
A road atlas or electronic map. Either of these can provide the number of miles between her driving locations. With this information she can calculate approximately how long it will take her to reach her destination.
Ex. A student is trying to find a book about civil engineering. She has been told that the name of the author who is well known for his books on this topic. She is going to the library and wants to locate books on this topic, but specifically by this author. What informational source would help her locate books on civil engineering by the author?
Library catalog. Library catalogs are used to itemize the locations of all printed resources in a library. Each item corresponds to a book, is organized by topic and author, and is associated with a call number that directs the patron to the books location within the library.
Use e legend and key of a sample map pg.43 and 44 what is a legend?
A small area that explains the symbols and notations used on the map. Can sometimes be called he key.
Compass rose
Most legends contain a compass rose that indicates the cardinal directions as they relate to the map.
Distance scale
Information in the legend that tells the reader how to interrupt distances on the map. It usually appears as a line as distance marking.
