Technique: 110kV @ 4mAs

Pt. Instructions: hold cup of barium in left hand, sip and swallow while exposing

Notes: collimate to 5-6” width

Lateral Esophagus

SID: 40” (the 72” erect)

CR: level of T6 or 2-3” inferior to jugular notch)

Position: hips & shoulders in true lateral, IR 2” above shoulders, arms near head with elbows flexed

Technique: 110kV @ 5mAs

Pt. Instructions: suspend respiration

Notes: collimate so width is 5-6”

AP Stomach

SID: 40”

CR: level of L1, or midway between xiphoid process & lower lateral ribs

Position: supine, arms at sides, no rotation, bottom of IR at iliac crest

Pt. Instructions: expose at end of respiration

RAO Stomach

SID: 40”

CR: midway between spine & lateral abdominal border at level of L1 (1-2” above lower lateral rib margin), 45-55° oblique from prone

Position: recumbent, rotated 40-70° from prone into RAO position (less rotation for asthenic pt, more for hyperstenic pt), right arm down, left arm flexed near pt head, left knee flexed

Technique: 110kV @ 5mAs (single), 90kV @ 10mAs (double)

Pt. Instructions: suspend respiration, expose on expiration

Notes: 10x12”

LPO Stomach

SID: 40”

CR: level of L1 (midway between xiphoid process & left lateral abdominal margin) & midway between midline of body & left lateral abdominal margin, 45° oblique

Position: recumbent, rotated 30-60° from supine into LPO position (left side against table), more rotation for hyperstenic pt, less rotation for asthenic pt, bottom of IR at iliac crest, right knee flexed, left arm extended, right arm raised across body

Technique: 110kV @ 5mAs (single), 90kV @ 10 mAs (double)

Pt. Instructions: suspend respiration, expose on expiration

Notes: 10x12”

Lateral Stomach

SID: 40”

CR: level of L1 & 1-1.5” anterior to MCP

Position: recumbent on right lateral position, arms near head, knees flexed, shoulders & hips in true lateral

Technique: 110kV @ 6mAs (single), 90kV @ 12mAs (double)

Pt Instructions: suspend respiration, expose on expiration

Notes: 10x12”

Lateral Stomach

SID: 40”

CR: level of L1 & 1-1.5” anterior to MCP
