The difference between ETC and chemiosmosis |
OxPhos consists of ETC and chemiosmosis. In ETC, electrons are transferred from one complex of proteins to the other, releasing energy captured as a proton gradient, which is used to make ATP (chemiosmosis). These releasing energy is to create electrochemical gradient. |
|
Why doesn’t complex ll pump out proton into the IMS? |
The carrier of electrons in complex ll is FADH2. FADH2 is not as good as NADH relating to donor their electrons. Thus, its electrons are at lower energy level. |
|
What is another name for gradient in mitochondria? |
Proton-motive force (PMF). It is like a battery to store energy. |
