What are Emergency Management Systems(EMS)

EMS are technological aids that facilitate the effective management of disasters. EMS technology can assist in many areas that are critical to effective disaster management some includes hazard mapping resource management etc

What are some commonly used EMS tools

GIS- Geographic Information Systems

GPS- geographic positioning systems

RSS- Remote sensing systems

What is GIS

GIS are information systems capaerble of interagating storing editing analyzing sharing and displaying geographically referenced information.

What is GPS

GPS also referred to as the global navigation satalite system GNSS is a grouping of 24well spaced satallities that orbit the earth and make it possible for ppl to pin point exact location with great accuracy. GPS can be used for tacking, farming, navigation on land and on sea.

What is remote sensing

Remote sensing also known as (RS) is the use of electromagnetic (EM) wave radiation to acquire information about an object or phenomenon by a recording device that us not in physical or intimate contact with the object. RS is the acquisition of information about an object by a recording device that is NOT in physical or intimate contact with the object.

What is the Disaster Management Cycle

Prevention, Mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery

What is Prevention

The outright avoidance of adverse impacts of hazards and related disasters

What is mitigation

Preventing future emergencies or minimizing their effects

2mitigation measures are

Structural and non structural activities

Structural includes measures to reduce economic and social impact of hazadarous agents and involve construction programmes especially dams, windbreaks, terracingamd hazard buildings.

Non structural is most common used to refer to policies and practices etc.

What is resilience

Resilience is the capacity of a system to survive, adapt, and grow in the face of unforseen changes, even catastrophic incidents.

What is community resilience

Community resilience is the capability to anticipate risk, limit impact, and bounce back rapidly through survival, adaptability, eveloution and growth in the face of turbulent change.
