What is neuropsychology?

-Psychology that is concerned with understanding normal and abnormal brain function and how it influences and cognitions.


-Scientific study of the neuralinfrastructure of human behaviour, perception, cognition and emotion.

What is genomics?

-Thecharacterization of body tissue using DNA as the ‘generator’ (the “Genome”).

What is connectomics?

-Thecharacterization of the connections amongst nervoussystemelements (the “Connectome”)

Why do we have a central nervous system?

-Provide an increase in the chance of producing adaptive behaviours.

What are some nervous system functions?

-To monitor and control body functions.


-To extract information from the external environment.


-Interact with the environment by controlling the actions of muscles.

What is an advantage and disadvantage of the CNS?

-Advantage: Central information processing makes use of common processing elements and avoids duplications of functions in different structures.


-Disadvantage: Damage (caused by things like trauma) can affect many functions.

What is natural selection and who contributed to it?



- Structural and functionalcharacteristics that allow an organism to reproduce more successfully arepassed on to offspring.


-Variance in structure and function is required to make this possible. Genetic mutation provides variance.


-Charles Darwin and Alfred Russell Wallace both independently came up with evolution.
