What is a prokaryotic cell?
Cell with no nucleus. eg bacteria
What is Cell wall?
It is not made of cellulose but of other polysacharides. it is rigid, strong and protects the cell from bursting when it absorbs water. It is also FULLY permeable.
What is cell surface membrane?
Partially permeable. Controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the capsule?
a protective layer of slime
what is a flagella
Used for movement (bacteria, little motors on end of flagella which rotate causing the cell to move.
What are bacterial chromosomes?
Carry instructions for making proteins in the cell. they are long, double helixed froming a circular molecule. It is not contained within a nucleus
What is a plasmid
Small circular DNA molecules, can be passed from one bacteria to another
what are glycogen granules?
Insoluble energy store of carbohydrates which can be broken down into a glucose and used for respiration
What are lipid droplets?
Insoluble energy store
What are ribosomes?
Where protein synthesis takes place. they are smaller than in a eukaryotic cell (with a nucleus)
