Some antibiotics work by targeting the prokaryotic 70S ribosomes. How do they do this? Name an example of an antibiotic that does this. |
They inhibit protein synthesis in some way. Tetracycline is an example, prevents binding of tRNAs to the acceptor site of the ribosome |

What is an endospore? Give example |
Endospores allow bacteria to become dormant. - only certain species sporulate - cause by starvation, desiccation or other stresses - once formed resistant to: desiccation, uv radiation, toxins, boiling, osmotic changes. Extremely hardy. - when conditions are favorable the endospore germinates to form a vegetative cell. - spores can last decades to thousands of years. Example: Bacillus anthracis |
