What is communication

It is the process by which communicating parties share information, ideas and emotions with others

What are the different elements of communications?

Senders and receivers; messages; channels; noise; feedback; and communication effects.

PWhat are the senders and receivers in the communication process

The sender is the one who encodes ( conceptualises a thought or message and then uses a language to code them so it may be transmitted through a medium) messages and the readers decode (perceives the message through the sensory organs and creates meaning and understanding) them

What is the message in the communication orocess

It is the content of the communicative act and it can be either verbal or non verbal

What is the channel in the communicative process

It is the media through which messages are sent it can also be verbal or non verbal

What are the barriers and facilitators to the communicative process?

It is anything which creates a barrier to communication and impedes on successful communication. Noise is not always aural. It may be


✴ semantic: stems from Barriers in language use e.g. When one party speaks an entirely different language or uses incomprehensible dialect or specialized jargon



✴physiological: when speaker or the listener has speech or articulation problems



✴psychological: cognitive or mental barriers eg prejudice in either the sender or receiver or personal feelings



What is feedback in the communicative process?

This is what helps us to understand whether or not we have communicated successfully or not. If positive feedback is received we are motivated to continue communicated but if the feedback is negative we tend to discontinue it.

What are the two forms of communication?

Verbal and non-verbal.

What is verbal communication?

It involves speech and writing.

What is non verbal communication?

This is when information is transferred from sender to receiver without the use of words.


It's subdivided into the following categories:


✴ Vocalics/Paralanguage: it is the tome or voice used when we speak or write



✴Proxemics: it is use of space to convey an idea of image



✴Artifiacts: it is the use of objects that relay a message about your beliefs



✴Posture and Movement: the body conveys messages
