What is architecture and how do we view it?

Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings for practical, aesthetic, and symbolic purposes. It is a misunderstood art form because it is seen as a necessity.
What three issues key issues architects integrate?
1. function( how a building is used)
2. form ( how it looks)
3. structure (how it stands)
What are the advantages of wood stone and brick.
Wood can be used for wood beams where else wood can be used for walls but are not suitable for beams. However stone has permanence and beauty so ancient cities would be carved out of stone.
What is the process of dry masonry?
It is the simplest building technique that involves piling stones on top one another. When done with a consistent pattern the result is called masonry. In dry masonry no mortar is used so the stones themselves hold the structure up. An example is Great Zimbabwe.
What are the post and beam structural type?
This structural type were the two dominant ones prior to the 20th century. It is horizontal columns supporting beams. The columns (posts) must be short while the beams are thick. A row of columns spanned or connected is called a colonnade as seen in Colonnade and Court of Amenhotep the third.
What are the types of Round Arch, Vault, and Dome?
The four types of these are Round arch, Barrel vault, groin vault and arcade.
