What is a pump?

A machine, driven by an external power, to give energy to fluid

The two types of pump?

Centrifugal pump

External power is the road engine and pumps out water

Positive Displacement pump

Moves a piston through a cylinder to put pressure on a fluid. This can pump gas

What is a centrifugal pump do?

Centrifugal pumps rely on centrifugal force. Centrifugal force is an outward force associated with rotation

What are 2 parts of a single stage centrifugal pump

• Impeller

• The Volute

What is the Impeller

Imparts kinetic energy to the fluid. Fluid enters the centre, accelerates and transfers fluid outwards

What does the Volute do?

Converts the kinetic energy to pressure energy.

What does the Godiva World Series multi-pressure pump on the appliance do?

• supply high volumes of water at low pressure

• supply low volumes of water at high pressure

• both high and low pressures simultaneously
