What is the purpose of a backflow preventer? |
They act as check valves preventing any contamination in the block from getting into the site header. |

There's a toggle switch positioned at the valves that send an alarm to the dcs when the valve gets opened. |

What provisions should be made if the potable water system is taken out of service? |
Place full coolers in the kitchen areas. Place dak-packs full of water in the restrooms. All chemical feed and storage areas will be monogoggle required. Post do not drink signs in consumption areas. Portable eyewash stations should be kept in the labs, shops, and wherever maintenance is being performed. Work permits must include special instructions / precautions. Make announcement over PA. |

What must happen prior to drinking potable water once it's returned to service? |
Dead end sections must be flushed and EOB will advise when the water is safe to consume. |
