Occlusal Receptor |
size 4, pt. bites down on entire receptor largest size measures 3x2.25 in ; in children size 2 is used |
When do we use an occlusal image? |
when the area of interest is larger than a periapical receptor may cover, or when placement of a receptor is difficult for patient |
Basic Principles |
-white side facing the arch that is being exposed -receptor is placed between the occlusal surface of maxillary and mandibular teeth -receptor is stabilized when pt. bites down |
Maxillary Topographic Projections |
examines palate, and anterior teeth of maxilla |
Maxillary Lateral (right or left) projection |
examines palatal roots of molar teeth, also to locate foreign bodies or lesions in posterior maxilla |
Maxillary Pediatric Occlusal Projections |
examines the anterior teeth of the maxilla; typically used age 5 or younger |
Mandibular Topographic Occlusal Projections |
examines anterior teeth of mandible |
Mandibular Cross Sectional Projections |
examine the buccal and lingual aspects of mandible, locate foreign bodies/salivary stones, in region of floor of the mouth |
Mandibular Pediatric Occlusal Projection |
examines anterior teeth of the mandible, typically age 5 or younger |
Localization Technique |
locate position of a tooth in mouth; either buccal or lingual; 2 techniques, buccal object rule and right angle technique |
Buccal Object Rule |
you are taking 2 images, if your object moves in the second image to the opposite of the PID movement, then it is buccally placed. If your object stays the same after PID movement, then it's lingual side. |
Right Angle Technique |
primarily used for locating objects in the mandible. Technique is done by makine a right angle on the second object |
