The democratic party favors higher taxes and social programs. They also tend to support same sec marriage and women’s right to abort. They are also in favor of no role in religion in government matters.

In republican party, they prefer lower taxes and they lead to dependency that private market would be better. They support religious influence and they are opposed of same sex marriage and abortion

Civil liberties is the rights and freedoms that government is obligated to protect, typically by not interfering with them. Typically based on the bill of rights.

The obama doctrine

The obama doctrine describes one or several principles of the foreign policy of US former president barack obama. The doctrine would emphasize negotiation and collaboration rather than negotiation and unilateralism in international affairs.

The obama doctrine is idealistic becoming a realistic because he may have initially planned to have a peaceful negotiation but once threatened, he resort to a unilateral decision which defines what being a realist is. He act upon self-interest regardless of the consequences that the other party would go through.

Public opinion

Public opinion is political beliefs an attitudes of the public on matters of relevance determined by surveys/polls. This is important since democracy is ruled by the people. Polls gives a general idea of what the public think

The effects on low political trust and voter turn out on democracy

Low political trust develop because people get discouraged with all of social pressure, requirements and the complexity of the system. Even the election day timing is inconvenient. Therefore, there are only few people who are interested in voting. This imposes democracy since there’s a disproportion voter turn out percentage representing the people.

The progressive movement and the initiative process

Progressive movement is designed to mitigate/ end corruption in government and give more direct authority to the populace...

Initiative process are the proposed bills that people get to vote on. This is done by getting the required amount of signature depending on the proposed bill to get approved. This is a direct democracy since people are directly involved in making the decision.

Positive and negatives of initiative process

Positive:

Direct democracy

Any bill can be passed

Negative:

Anybody can promote a proposition

It is time consuming to get signatures

I think we should keep this method of democracy but there should be a modification where the proposed bill has to have a significant amount of approval from the people before it gets passed into legislation.
