On the basis of size and kind of stem, plants can be classified as herbs, shurbs, trees, creepers & climbers.
What are herbs? |
They are usually short and have green and tender stem, which may or may not have branches like beet and carrot. |

What is taproot system? |
When a seed germinates, a root emerges from the seed called radicle. This is called the main root, from which the root branches emerge. The main root grows deep into the soil.Such a root system is called the taproot system and is seen in plants like bean, mango and pea. |
What is fibrous root system? |
In plants like maize, a cluster of roots arises from the base of the stem. The root formed first dies. The cluster of roots is thin and fibrous. There is no main root. They form the fibrous root system and spread out into the soil giving support to the plants. Wheat, maize, millet, etc., have this type of root system. |
