**not 4 kids / lower dose in elderly**

**Need therapeutic plasma level - go for at least 3 months**

**give at BEDTIME (or 2x/day)**

**takes a few weeks 4 full effect**

MOAI (Monoamine oxidase inhibitor)

heart failure
bad liver/kidney

ADVERSES:
anti-cholinergic effects (anti-"fight or flight")
blurred vision / restlessness

AGRANULOCYTOSIS

** keep platelet MAO enzyme activity btwn 85-95%**

**Avoid: tyramine foods & OTC w/ dextromethorphan**

** med effects may take several weeks - DON'T STOP ABRUPTLY**

**Give less to elderly - NOT 4 KIDS**
