D. Scarlatti was a Galant composer but grew up in the same time learned style (Handel and Bach) was still a thing. His dad A. Scarlatti made a living as a baroque composer. D. Scarlatti wanted to be different from his dad so started looking at what the younger guys were doing. He composed about 555 of them. He carved out his own style, played with sonata form. Had a large scale harmonic plan (whatever that means) |

He was essentially the 2IC music director -took over when the main guy retired. This meant he has quite a bit of secondary duties. He would: Consult music logistics for the prince. Compose 1 major work/month, chamber stuff, stuff for the prince to play Provide singing lessons Dress and deportment for patrons and musicians. Because he had all these musicians at his disposal it was a massive sandbox for him. He could hear what anything sounded like right there. Managed to keep in the loop because a lot of people would stop by his area. People could bring him music for him to study to get that international (western european) style |

He was an early symphony composer. He was also a conductor. Stamitz was the first guy to really tighten up a symphony. Implemented techniques such as bowing string in the same direction, crescendo His orchestra was called 'Manheim Orchestra' |
