Plasma membrane |
diverse mosaic- know diagram |
|
facilitated diffusion |
need a middleman to help diffusion occur- transport proteins act as helper for FD each protein will only transport a specific molecule needs energy to occur (ATP) |
|
aquaporins |
channel within membrane that let water through the plasma membrane |
|
why is water polar |
because of its electronegativity between hydrogen and oxygen (electrons are shared unequally) |
|
exocytosis |
expelling material and particles out of a cell |
|
endocytosis |
THREE TYPES:
phagocytosis- when an amoeba engulfs a particle by extending a false foot and dragging it into the cell membrane for the lysosome to break down to be able to diffuse
pinocytosis- when an amoeba physically indents and any liquid around it gets sucked in and is trapped by the membrane- to diffuse through membrane
receptor-mediated endocytosis - when membrane surface has receptors that react to specific enzymes and drag them into membrane
|
|
osmosis and osmoregulate |
movement of water in cell
osmoregulation- |
|
solute binding |
