Define "Shock"
Shock, also referred to as Hypoperfusion, is simply the inability of a person’s body to supply enough oxygen to meet the demands of his tissues.
What are the 3 stages of shock?
Compensated, Decompensated, and Irreversible
Define "Compensated shock"
Compensated shock is that which the body is effectively coping with via catecholamine (epinephrine & norepinephrine) release from the adrenal glands.
What physiological changes occur in response to catecholamine release?
+HR, +R, vasoconstriction
Define "Decompensated shock"
Decompensation occurs at the point where acidosis renders catecholamine release ineffective and the body can no longer keep perfusing tissue.
