Nuclear envelope
Double membrane surrounding nucleus. Outer membrane with ER of the cell + often has robosomes on it's surface. Contorl entry/exit of material in/out nucleus + contains reactions taking place within it.
Nuclear pores
Allow the Passage of large molecules (mRNA) out of the nucleus. 3000 pores in each nucleus + each 40-100 nm in diameter
Nucleoplasm
Granular, jelly like material that makes up the bulk of the nucleus
Chromoatin
The DNA found withing nucleoplasm. This is the diffuse form that chromosomes take up when the cell is not dividing
Nucleolus
Small spherical body within the nucleoplasm. It namufactures ribosomal RNA and assembles ribosomes
Funtions of a nucleus
+ act as control centre of the cell through the production of mRNA and hense protein synthesis
+ Retain the genetic material of the cell in the form of DNA/chromosomes
+Naufacture ribosomal RNA and ribosomes.
