Can you bill a patient extra for using an instrument?
Patients cannot be billed additionally during a regular office visit for the use or application of the research device, appliance, instrument or technique, and the registrant cannot accept any benefit from anyone for making use of the research device, appliance, instrument or technique.
Can you advertise these therapeutic device?
The registrants’ use of the therapeutic device, appliance or technique shall not be disclosed through advertising and the registrant’s advertising of his or her practice must
remain within the advertising Policies and Guidelines For Naturopaths and Related
Corporations as set out by the BDDT-N.
If my device uses current, what must I do?

What information must be on the label or on an accompanying sheet (prescription pad) of all medicines and devices dispensed?
a) The dispensing ND’s name and/or clinic name and telephone number.
b) Patient’s name.
c) Name of medicine or device.
d) Date the medicine or device was dispensed.
e) For medicines: the expiry date.
f) For medicines: name and strength/proportion/weight/volume of any
substance in the dispensed medicine.
g) Directions for the proper and appropriate use of the medicine or device.
h) Any cautionary information about the medicine or device.
What must you write in the patient's file wrt a dispensed medicine/device?
name and strength of all medicines dispensed,
dosage and frequency,
dispensing date,
number of repeats.

For devices: the intended frequency and duration of usage.
How do you maintain security of your medicines and devices?
secured cabinet or room, control access to that area, and maintain an
ongoing inventory.
What notice must be posted and visible to all patients?
“ The medicines or devices prescribed by your doctor of naturopathic medicine may be purchased from your doctor of naturopathic medicine, a pharmacy, a health store, or a medical supply company of your
choice.”
What does your personnel have to do with your dispensary?
The dispensing naturopathic doctor shall provide supervision and
training of any personnel involved in the dispensing process.

The cost of dispensed items is to reflect current market prices.
Mark-up on dispensed items is to be not more than 90% of the standard unit
wholesale cost of the item.
What does it mean to be a dual registrant?
A current registrant of the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy -
Naturopathy (BDDT-N) who is also a current registrant of any other regulated health care profession in the Province of Ontario.
Can you mix naturopathic and chiropractic care in one patient file?
No.
Everything must be kept separate.

The separation of files is necessary because if the BDDT-N needs to investigate a complaint from a patient regarding naturopathic treatment received from a naturopath who is a dual registrant, that practitioner must be able to supply the Board with all records pertaining to any and all naturopathic visits by that particular patient. No other records should be included with naturopathic
records.
Can a patient make an appointment for the same day at the same time for 2 services?
If both services have to be provided on the same day, separate appointments and appropriate times must be shown in the appointment book.
Can you surprise the patient as to what kind of treatment they will be receiving?
No.
the patient must know beforehand what type of professional care he/she will be receiving.

The appropriate naturopathic appointment time must be recorded in the appointment book, a record of the naturopathic examination, diagnosis and treatment made in the patient’s records, and the visit billed and coded according to your office fee schedule for the naturopathic services provided.
