what does the ANAV system do?

provides present position, guidance in both horizontal and vertical planes, air data and nav mode management

what are the backup instruments (5)?

-artificial horizon

-airspeed indicator

-clock

-compass

- barometric altimeter

what are the components in the ANAV system

-RA

-DVS

-2 IRS

-2 ADS

What is the purpose of the RNAV

to provide bearing and distance from ground beacons, landing guidance in both horizontal and vertical planes, terrain warning, direction finding and homing capabilities

what are the components in the RNAV?

-ILS

-ADF

-PLS

-EGPWS

What is the purpose of the ADS?

computes air data from physical measurements (pressure and temp). Achieved Via the ADC which collects the measurements from the pitots (pressure) and the temp probe (temperature).

what are the components in the ADS?

-ADS

-Temp probe

-pitot static probes x 2

What does the RA do?

computes height above ground level

What are the components of RA?

-Transceiver: sends signals to the ground and analyses the reflected signal to determine height above the ground. Inside tailboom near DVS

-2 antennas located underside of tailboom near DVS

What is the DVS?

A four beam doppler sensor which measures ground velocity components. consists of LRU under tail boom

What does the IRS do?

it computes altitude, nav, guidance data. It incorporates GPS to enhance computation

Where is the IRS GPS antenna located?

upper side of the tailboom on the tail driveshaft cover.

What has to happen before IRS enters into NAV mode?

IRS has to determine the helicopters altitude and position with reference to the earth. This is achieved through Alignment. Once alignment is successfully completed the A/C present position is initialised so the IRS can go into NAV mode

what are the phases in Ground alignment?

-levelling phase to determine local vertical

-coarse alignment to rapidly determine a rough heading

-fine alignment to perform refinement of the heading

Which are the 3 data that IRS compute?

-critical data

-GPS data

-optimal data

what are the components in the Landing system?

-MMR

-DME

What does the MMR do?

provides VOR, ILS, MARKER, MLS functions

where is MMR 1 and MMR 2 located?

MMR 1 in NAB and MMR in AAB

Where are the VOR antennas located?

either side of the tailboom

Where is the Glideslope antenna?

upper inside of the weather radar dome

Where is the marker beacon antenna?

mounted under the fuselage near the RH MLG

What does the DME do?

provides distance measurement and 'time to go' info

where is the DME antennas and transceiver?

1 below apu exhaust

1 left underside of fuselage beside fuel dump pipe

transceiver in NAB

what are the components in the ADF?

-receiver

-combined sense/loop antenna

where is the ADF antenna and receiver?

receiver in the RAB and the antenna under the fuselage at the rear

What does the PLS do?

Allows the crew to carry out civil SAR missions. locates transmissions from comms transceivers and ELTs

what are the components in the PLS?

-Locator Processor Transmitter

-active DF antenna

-UHF antenna

where is the UHF and PLS antennas located?

UHF antenna is on the lower front LH side of the helicopter and the PLS antenna is located under front fuselage on the lubber line

What does the EGPWS do?

helps prevent accidents caused by controlled Flight into terrain. It alerts the crew when the helicopter is getting to close to something

where is the EGPWS compuer and GPS antenna located?

comp in RAB and antenna on top of tailboom

What does the ELT do?

transmits and alerts in case of an emergency to help locate the NH90

What are the components for the ELT?

Transmitter

mounting bracket

aux antenna (on ELT)

where is the ELT and outside antenna located?

ELT is in rear RH cabin and outside antenna is aft of RH engine exhaust
