Role of the central nervous system

Responsible for coordinating incoming and outgoing information

CNS is made up of the brain and the spinal cord

Role of the peripheral nervous system

Includes nerves that carry sensory messages to the CNS and nerves that send info from the CNS to muscles and glands

What are the 2 parts of the PNS and what are their roles

Somatic - controls skeletal, muscle, bones, skin, contains both sensory and motor neurons

Autonomic - control the internal organs of the body. Regulates the involuntary processes of the body

What are the two parts of the Autonomic system. And what are their functions

Sympathetic - fight, flight, fright, intercourse.

Parasympathetic - activities of rest and recuperation.

What is the input and output order?

Sensory receptors

Sensory input

Integration

Motor output

Effector

What is the role of a neuron

Transmit messages

What is the role of glial cells

Noirish the neuron, remove wastes, and defend against Infection.

What are the 3 types of neurons

Sensory

Interneurons

Motor neurons

What is the role of a sensory neuron

Relates information from the environment to the CNS. Connects to receptors
